LGBTQ+ Healthcare Resources

Begin with Cultural Humility

Central to the patient experience are respect, safety, and trust. Begin with Cultural Humility, staying open and curious to learn about others who are different from you. This is an ongoing, reflective process where you check in to be aware of any unconscious bias and privilege that might be present.

Consider providing all patients with a statement such as: “We welcome all patients and want to ensure that we provide inclusive, affirming, and comfortable care. If there is anything we should know or ways we can improve your care, please don’t hesitate to let us know.”

Create a Welcoming and Affirming Care Environment
  • Respectfully, use correct pronouns and names to create a safe space for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.
  • Use Visual cues to indicate a welcoming place.
    • Non-discrimination statement poster
    • Rainbow flag
    • Use Imagery of LGBTQ+ individuals, couples, and families
    • LGBTQ+ brochures, posters, or educational materials
    • Gender-neutral signage, single-stall restroom
